Rogue Mega Victreebel boss strategy
When it comes to battling it out with Rogue Mega Victreebel in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you first want to keep an eye on your Mega Ring. Once that fills up fully (which you can do by collecting orbs of Mega Power from around the arena), you'll be able to Mega Evolve one of your Pokémon, which then allows them to use Plus Moves. These are more powerful versions of their existing moves.
You can also spend a portion of your Mega Ring gauge on using the Plus Move of a Pokémon without evolving them, but we recommend saving up for Mega Evolution. This turns all of the evolved Pokémon's moves into Plus Moves, and you'll get more out of your Mega Ring that way.
Given Rogue Mega Victreebel's weaknesses to Flying, Fire, Psychic, and Ice-types, you'll want to ideally bring a party of Pokémon to this battle that consist of those types. This means that if you chose Fire-type Tepig as your starter Pokémon, you're in luck! If you've evolved him into hybrid Fire and Fighting-type, Pignite, however, you're in less luck as Victreebel is resistant to Fighting-types. That said, this doesn't mean you can't use Pignite, just be conscious to use his Fire-type attacks above all else.
You'll also want to prepare for Rogue Mega Victreebel's moveset. The attacks (and special abilities) he uses are as follows:
- Vine Whip (Grass-type) - As it says on the tin, Victreebel whips a vine around them.
- Bullet Seed (Grass-type) - Victreebel is capable of launching multiple projectile seeds at you in quick succession. These projectile seeds follow a single straight line and can be easily dodged using 'Y'.
- Sludge Bomb (Poison-type) - While Sludge Bomb is a traditional Pokémon attack, Rogue Mega Victreebel dishes this particular attack out visually (and it isn't named in the attack logs, it seems). Victreebel will glow pink before dishing out multiple purple projectiles around the arena that explode after a short delay, leaving poisonous pools behind. Dodge away from these and be careful to not stand in them.
Aside from preparing a party of Pokémon capable of taking Victreebel down, you'll largely be running away from and dodging to steer clear of his attacks that can target you, the Trainer, as well as your Pokémon. Don't forget that you can also use healing items and Revives in a pinch, but there is a short cooldown after using one of these, so think through your use of items carefully.
Upon beating Rogue Mega Victreebel in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you'll be rewarded with Victreebelite Mega Stone, which can be used to Mega Evolve a Victreebel during battle.
Good luck beating Rogue Mega Victreebel in Pokémon Legends: Z-A!
