This Water and Psychic-type Pokémon – also known as the series' beloved but lazy hermit crab Pokémon – puts up a tough fight, however, this is no doubt one of your first Rogue Mega battles in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, so it's nothing you're not capable of beating.

Below, we run through all of Rogue Mega Slowbro's weaknesses and counters in Pokémon Legends Z-A, as well as some tips on how to beat them.

Rogue Mega Slowbro boss strategy

Depending on which order you decided to tackle each of the Rogue Mega battles in, this might be your first introduction to these fights. They task you with taking down a tough Mega-Evolved version of a specific Pokémon. In this instance, we're facing Rogue Mega Slowbro.

An important thing to note during these fights is that you can use your Mega Ring to Mega Evolve a chosen Pokémon once it is filled. Alternatively, however, you can use a little bit of your Mega Ring's charge to use a Pokémon's move as a Plus Move. A Plus Move is a more powerful version of that attack, but it obviously comes at the cost of having to wait a little longer before Mega Evolving one of your Pokémon (and we overall recommend waiting to Mega Evolve over using Plus Moves).

With housekeeping out of the way, you want to ideally have prepared for the Rogue Mega Slowbro battle by bringing along a party of Pokémon that it is weak to, this includes Grass, Bug, Dark, Ghost, and Electric-types, so starter Pokémon Chikorita is great here, as well as the likes of Dark/Fire-type Houndoom and Electric-type Flaaffy.

You'll also want to prepare for Rogue Mega Slowbro's moveset. The attacks (and special abilities) he uses are as follows:

  • Water Pulse (Water-type) – Slowbro fires off multiple jets of water at the opponent that has a chance of confusing them.
  • Psybeam (Psychic-type) – Slowbro fires a beam of psychic energy at the opponent that has a small chance of confusing them.
  • Slowbro can also send out physical whirling vortexes around the arena. You'll want to avoid their pathing as to not get sucked into them and damaged by them.

The Vortex attack in particular can be predicted as Slowbro will stop and glow pink before doing it. This is a good time to get out of Slowbro's way and possibly even return your Pokémon back to their ball temporarily to prevent them from losing any HP.

Aside from largely running away from and dodging (using 'Y'), Rogue Mega Slowbro's attacks, you'll want to keep rotating through your Pokémon – prioritising the Pokémon that Slowbro is weak to – while keeping an eye on your healing items; you can only use one of these at a time, then there's a small cooldown before being able to use another.

Upon beating Rogue Mega Slowbro in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you'll be rewarded with the Slowbronite Mega Stone, which can be used to Mega Evolve a Slowbro during battle (not Galarian Slowbro, though).

Good luck beating Rogue Mega Slowbro in Pokémon Legends Z-A!
