Here are Rogue Mega Mawile’s weaknesses:

  • Rogue Mega Mawile type - Steel and Fairy-type.
  • Rogue Mega Mawile is weak against - Fire and Ground-types.
  • Rogue Mega Mawile is resistant to - Normal, Flying, Rock, Bug, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dark, Fairy.
  • Rogue Mega Mawile is immune to - Poison and Dragon-types.

Rogue Mega Mawile counters

The best Rogue Mega Mawile counters are Fire and Ground-types as they are weak to all of them. Also, Mawile is immune to Poison and Dragon-types, so don’t waste a slot with any of these for now!

We'd strongly advise equipping Numel or Camerupt, they cover both of Mawile's weaknesses and at this point you should also have the Cameruptite Mega Stone from the Rogue Mega Camerupt battle (if you've not used it already.)

Here are the Pokémon counters we recommend for each type:

Pokémon Types
Flareon Fire
Numel Fire/Ground
Camerupt Fire/Ground
Tepig Fire
Pignite Fire/Fighting
Emboar Fire/Fighting
Litleo Fire/Normal
Pansear Fire
Simisear Fire

Charmeleon Fire
Hippopotas Ground
Hippowdon Ground

Rogue Mega Mawile recommended level

Rogue Mega Mawile Level is 48, therefore we recommend being between Level 46 and 53 to take them on. If you’re below this level it is possible to take them on, but try to build your team around their weaknesses instead.

Rogue Mega Mawile boss strategy

To prepare for this battle you’ll ideally want to build your team around Rogue Mega Mawile’s weaknesses, which are Fire and Ground-types. Be careful when building your team as Mawile has quite a lot of resistances, and they are immune to Poison and Dragon-types.

As with most other Rogue Mega battles, the key to this one is to keep moving and don’t stay in one place for too long. Mawile is quite fast when they move and during this fight they can even go outside the battle boundary to attack! Don’t forget you can use healing items or revives to keep your chosen Pokémon in the fight for longer. Just be careful when you use them you can only use one at a time and there’s a cooldown period before they’re available again.

Remember you can use your Mega Ring to Mega Evolve once it’s full. If you’re at a lower level than Rogue Mega Mawile then we recommend waiting for your Mega Evolution and don’t use Plus Moves before this. However, if you’re at an equal level to or higher than them, then you can use a bit of your Mega Ring’s charge to use Plus Moves.

Here are Rogue Mega Mawile’s attacks and abilities:

  • Iron Head (Steel-type) - Mawile will smash its head backwards at its target, it has quite a long reach so the best thing you can do is make sure you're keeping yourself and your Pokémon a decent distance away.
  • Crunch (Dark-type) - They'll turn their back to their target, very briefly charge up then unleash a large set of jaws that will quite literally crunch at you. Again, the easiest thing to do to avoid them is make sure you're a good distance away.
  • Play Rough (Fairy-type) - Mawile can also teleport from one spot to another very quickly. If you see them standing still, crouching slightly and the marks around them on the ground starting to intensify, this usually means they're about to do this move. They tend to appear on top of you or close to where you're standing when they vanish and will attack once they reappear, so keep moving and don't stay still for too long.
  • Purple Orbs - For this attack, Mawile will go outside the battle boundary and then unleash numerous floating purple orbs across the battle area. These will continuously land around the area, the best way to avoid them is to pan your camera upwards to see where they are and use B to dash out of any that look like they'll hit you.
    • However, later in the fight this attack evolves slightly and there will be pink/red orbs alongside the purple ones. These orbs are slower to launch but they will follow you around the space!

When you defeat Rogue Mega Mawile you’ll be rewarded with the Mawilite Mega Stone. This is the Mega Stone you need to Mega Evolve a Mawile during a battle.

Good luck battling Rogue Mega Mawile in Pokémon Legends: Z-A!
