Located just east of Wild Zone 8 in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is Rogue Mega Banette, the beloved prankster Pokémon who's often found loitering in alleyways or rubbish bins. The Pokémon's time in Lumiose City appears no different, with her found playing pranks while preparing to Mega Evolve. Of course, it's your job as a Pokémon Legends: Z-A Trainer to take this angry Pokémon down.

Below, we run through all of Rogue Mega Banette's weaknesses and counters in Pokémon Legends Z-A, as well as some tips on how to beat them.

Rogue Mega Banette weaknesses

Here are Rogue Mega Banette's counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Legends: Z-A:

  • Banette type – Ghost-type.
  • Banette is weak against – Ghost and Dark-types.
  • Banette is resistant to – Poison and Bug-types.
  • Banette is immune to – Normal and Fighting-types.

Rogue Mega Banette counters

The best Rogue Mega Banette counters are Ghost and Dark-types, with Ghost-types being less viable as they'll also be weak to Banette's catalogue of attacks. Here are the Dark-type Pokémon we recommend for facing Banette:

Pokémon Type
Houndour/Houndoom Dark-type
Absol Dark-type
Sandile/Krokorok/Krookodile Dark/Ground-type
Umbreon Dark-type
Carvanha/Sharpedo Dark/Water-type
Inkay/Malamar Dark/Psychic-type
Greninja Water/Dark-type

Rogue Mega Banette recommended level

Rogue Mega Banette's is Level 41 in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, therefore we recommend being between Level 39 and 46. These battles are doable at lower Levels, but you will need to ensure you've a party packed with Pokémon that Rogue Mega Banette is weak to if you wish to be successful.

Rogue Mega Banette boss strategy

As is the case for all of your Rogue Mega battles in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the first thing we recommend is saving your Mega Power – which charges your Mega Ring's gauge – for Mega Evolving your strongest Pokémon. This then turns all of their moves into more powerful Plus Moves for a period of time.

You can use some of your Mega Power to dish out a Plus Move without Mega Evolving a Pokémon, but this means you'll have to wait longer to then Mega Evolve them… and you will ultimately get more out of Mega Evolving rather than the occasional use of a Plus Move.

Additionally, the key to defeating any particularly tough Rogue Mega Pokémon – Rogue Mega Banette included – is to bring along a party of Pokémon with you that cater to the opposing Pokemon's weaknesses. In Banette's case, she only has two weaknesses as a Ghost-type: Ghost and Dark-types. This means that you only have one viable type of Pokémon to quickly take Banette down with, and that's Dark-types. Ghost-types will, of course, deal double damage to Banette, but they'll unfortunately also receive double damage from her Ghost-type attacks so bear that in mind.

Fortunately, you'll have received your very own Dark-type Absol prior to this fight, as well as the Mega Stone – Absolite – needed to Mega Evolve them during battle. Therefore, you should definitely bring this Pokémon into Rogue Mega Banette's battle with you, alongside a Houndour if you have your hands on one.

What makes Banette a little trickier to counter is that she is also immune to Normal and Fighting-types, resistant to Poison and Bug-types, and deals additional damage to Psychic-types. So, if you're not bringing along a party of Dark-type Pokémon (which at this point in the game, would mainly be Houndours), you might want to consider neutral-types (types that are not weak to or strong against Banette) such as Steel, Rock, Ground, Water, Fire, and Grass-types, amongst others.

You'll also want to prepare for Rogue Mega Banette's moveset. The attacks (and special abilities) she uses are as follows:

  • Phantom Force (Ghost-type) – anette disappears into the ground then reemerges elsewhere in the arena. Run and dodge to avoid her.
  • Shadow Ball (Ghost-type) – Banette hurls a shadowy projectile at opponents.
  • Shadow Sneak (Ghost-type) – Banette sends a shadowy trail out towards a target, dealing damage if it reaches them.
  • Confuse Ray (Ghost-type) – Banette sends out three glowing orbs towards opponents, confusing them if it comes into contact with them.
  • Slash (Normal-type) – Banette slashes at the opponents with its claws.
  • Double Team (Normal-type) - Banette summons multiple copies of itself around the arena that you'll need to avoid and quickly clear out, while primarily targeting the real Banette.

Rogue Mega Banette will summon multiple versions of itself during this fight that you'll need to avoid, making things particularly tough. Fortunately, the trick to this is that all the fake copies of Banette will have their name – Banette – and their Level shown above them once you target them (see the above images). The real Rogue Mega Banette, however, will not have a name or Level appear above her because, well, it's already plastered along the top of your screen.

Later in the fight, once Rogue Mega Banette reaches approximately 30-40% HP, they'll become enraged. This sees them and their copies quickly spin around the centre of the arena summoning additional Banette copies, which can be hard to avoid, but try your best to stick to the outer rim of the arena while avoiding Banette's other attacks – and their copies attacks – and you'll be just fine.

Last, but not least, don't forget to use healing items or Revives in a pinch, but be mindful of when you're using them. There's a small cooldown following using a healing item that you'll need to wait out before using another.

Upon beating Rogue Mega Banette in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you'll be rewarded with the Banettite Mega Stone, which can be used to Mega Evolve a Banette during battle.

Good luck beating Rogue Mega Banette in Pokémon Legends: Z-A!
