Pokémon Go Gigantamax Grimmsnarl counters, weaknesses and tactics
How to defeat the Gigantamaxed Dark/Fairy-type Pokémon.
Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, the ultimate form of the Bulk Up Pokémon, is here in the world of Pokémon Go.
Like all Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon, Gigantamax Grimmsnarl can’t be caught in the wild. You must first head to the relevant Power Spot and beat it in a Max Battle.
Below you’ll find Gigantamax Grimmsnarl’s counters and weaknesses to help you succeed in Pokémon Go. Once caught, you can use your Gigantamax Grimmsnarl in future Max Battles.

Gigantamax Grimmsnarl counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go
In order to battle a Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, you first need to do three things:
- Have 800 Max Particles.
- Have IRL friends who play the game or use a Remote Raid Pass.
- Find a Power Spot with a Gigantamax Grimmsnarl.
The upside to doing Max Battles IRL is that this is obviously a money-saver for the player (travel notwithstanding). The downside is that you need to find people to play with in real life, rather than remoting in. As with previous Gigantamax battles, we strongly recommend travelling to an urban centre for a pre-arranged meet-up. You have little chance of doing this solo or with a small group in a rural area.
If you'd rather remote in, you should be aware of the following:
- You need to use both a Remote Raid Pass and spend your 800 Max Particles, rather than just using a pass.
- You use the pass as soon as you start a Max Battle, regardless of the outcome.
- If you lose the battle and leave the lobby or the Raid rotates, you will effectively lose your pass.
That said, don't worry if you fail the first time, you can simply re-enter the same lobby and try again. As long as you have enough Revives and Potions, you can keep trying until you run out of battery!
Below you’ll find the counters and weaknesses for Gigantamax Grimmsnarl to help you win the Max Battle:
- Gigantamax Grimmsnarl types - Dark/Fairy-type
- Gigantamax Grimmsnarl is weak against - Fairy, Poison and Steel-type attacks
- Gigantamax Grimmsnarl is resistant to - Ghost-type attacks.
- Gigantamax Grimmsnarl is super-resistant to - Dark, Dragon and Psychic-type attacks.
- Gigantamax Grimmsnarl top offensive counters - Crowned Sword Zacian (Behemoth Blade) is your best option, as the strongest Steel-type Max Pokémon in the game. Failing that, you're looking at Dynamax Metagross (Max Steelspike) or Dynamax Excadrill (Max Steelspike).
- Number of players to beat Gigantamax Grimmsnarl - As always, the more the merrier, up to a maximum of 40. Remember, you will be split into teams of four, so don't worry if you don't see everyone in your lobby! In your group of four, you should aim for two attackers, one healer and one defender.
- Tactics - Dynamax and Gigantamax raids are a little more complicated than traditional raids in Pokémon Go.
- First, be aware that your Fast move governs your Max move, so make sure to bring a Fast move that Gigantamax Grimmsnarl is weak against, if you can. If we suggested one above, use that - otherwise anything works.
- If you're one of the attackers, you need to focus on using your Fast Move as much possible, to unleash your Max Attack as quickly and often as possible.
- If you're out of fighters, and can leave attacking to someone who isn't, you should focus on either defending or healing your team. Your top defenders who can put up a strong Max Guard are Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta. Dynamax Blissey is your best healer with Max Spirit. A little teamwork here goes a long way!
- Rewards for beating Gigantamax Grimmsnarl - For taking down a six-star Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, you will receive 25,000 Stardust, 25,000 XP, 1 Rare Candy XL, 30 Grimmsnarl Candy, 1 Grimmsnarl Candy XL and 10 Premier Balls. Don't forget to crack a Star Piece and a Lucky Egg beforehand if you want to maximise your Max rewards!
- This means that your best team of four to defeat Gigantamax Grimmsnarl is: three Crowned Shield Zamazenta (two on attack and one on defence) and a Dynamax Blissey on support.
The High Voltage event is currently running. There's a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! First, it's worth learning about the level update. After this, you might want to fight in the Go Battle League, use Party Play, compete in a PokéStop Showcase or explore a Route for its Gift Exchange. Keep an eye out for rare Pokémon and don't forget to collect Max Particles, so you can battle Dynamax Pokémon in Max Battles.
Is Grimmsnarl shiny in Pokémon Go?
Yes, Grimmsnarl can be shiny in Pokémon Go. The shiny form of Impidimp was released in November 2025, alongside the release of Gigantamax Grimmsnarl!
As you can see below, shiny Impidimp takes the original pink and indigo theme and throws it out the window, opting for turquoise and white instead - a change it conserves as it evolves into shiny Morgrem. While it may not look like it at first glance, this theme is taken a step further with shiny Grimmsnarl - you just need to remember that it is covered in hair, which is white in the shiny evolution line!
Shiny Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, naturally, is more of the same.
Gigantamax Grimmsnarl CP in Pokémon Go
Unlike with Raids, there is no visible CP on a Max Battle boss. Instead, it just has a giant health bar that gets slightly smaller with each hit. It's also worth noting that because these battles take place in their own special arena, there is no weather boost available.
Below you’ll find the CP levels for Gigantamax Grimmsnarl in Pokémon Go:
- CP range for catching Gigantamax Grimmsnarl - 1552 CP to 1628 CP
- CP for perfect Gigantamax Grimmsnarl - 1628 CP
Best Grimmsnarl moveset in Pokémon Go
Gigantamax Grimmsnarl is the only Dark/Fairy-type Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon, given that the Impidimp family comprise the only Dark/Fairy Pokémon in the game! Such a unique Pokémon is clearly going to be worth picking up while you have the chance.
Remember, while you can use your fancy new Grimmsnarl in Go Battle League - and there's no reason not to, Grimmsnarl looks good in Great League and better in Ultra League - it won't be in its Gigantamax form! It's hardly fair for you to show up with a 105' (32m) monster to take down the opponent's Rattata, is it?
Gigantamax Grimmsnarl's ideal moveset is Sucker Punch (Fast) and Foul Play (Charged). Gigantamax Grimmsnarl’s exclusive G-Max move is G-Max Snooze.
Here are all the Fast and Charged moves Gigantamax Grimmsnarl can use in Pokémon Go:
Fast Moves:
- Bite (Dark)
- Low Kick (Fighting)
- Sucker Punch (Dark)
Charged Moves:
- Dark Pulse (Dark)
- Play Rough (Fairy)
- Foul Play (Dark)
- Power-Up Punch (Fighting)
- G-Max Snooze (Dark)
Everything we know about Grimmsnarl
Grimmsnarl is the final evolution of Impidimp, the Wily Pokémon - an imp that lives off negative emotions. As a Dark/Fairy-type, its design is based on the darker fairy tales. If a fairy is going to abduct you in the woods, it won't be Dedenne, will it? 100% it will be Impidimp. It’s also got some cool goblin vibes, which is pretty unique in the world of Pokémon.
Impidimp evolves into Morgrem, the Devious Pokémon. These two goblins are the only pink Dark-type Pokémon. They also form counterparts with Hattrem's family - Pokémon themed on witches.
Grimmsnarl, finally, is completely different. Rather than being a small, skinny imp, the Bulk-Up Pokémon is a whopping great hairy ogre - so hairy that its locks effectively become muscles. The ogre only gets scarier as it Gigantamaxes.
If you want to learn more about some of the only Dark/Fairy-types in the franchise, you can read their official Pokédex entries below:
- Impidimp: 'The reason this Pokémon causes trouble for those it feels close to is because Impidimp itself gets irritable if it can’t absorb negative emotions. They live in groups, pestering and playing pranks on each other to polish their troublemaking skills.'
- Morgrem: 'Morgrem prefers dirty tactics, like ambushing, because it doesn’t have confidence in its brawn. This Pokémon absorbs negative emotions and turns them into energy. It’s popular with people who tend to think gloomy thoughts.'
- Grimmsnarl: 'This Pokémon has complete control over its hair. Grimmsnarl normally keeps its hair wrapped around its body to support its muscles. It lives deep within the forest. Even after evolving into this splendid form, it hasn’t given up on its petty misdeeds and pranks.'
- Gigantamax Grimmsnarl: 'By transforming its leg hair, this Pokémon delivers power-packed drill kicks that can bore huge holes in Galar’s terrain. Gigantamax energy has caused more hair to sprout all over its body. With the added strength, it can jump over the world’s tallest building.'
Good luck defeating Gigantamax Grimmsnarl in Pokémon Go!
