It's been so long since dino-survival sequel Ark 2 was unveiled, its preposterous Vin Diesel-starring CGI trailer almost feels like a dream. But developer Studio Wildcard remains adamant it's still happening, and it's paving the way for its arrival with a brand-new Ark: Survival Ascended expansion, Ark: Lost Colony, launching on 16th December.

Oscar-winning animator and director Alberto Mielgo has hit back at accusations his cinematic short for Bungie's Marathon is AI-generated, insisting the production is "not AI", and was in fact the result of "155 incredible people and hell of hours, days, [and] months" of time.

The trouble is, my one overriding memory of Skies of Arcadia is so powerful I can barely remember anything else about the game at all. I can't, for instance, recall where I was when I played it, or even when; and I'm certainly not going to be able to tell you what it was about in anything but the broadest strokes without a trip to Wikipedia. What I do know, though, is Sega's beloved RPG - set in a vibrant world of swashbuckling skybound pirates - was brilliant. And I can say this with absolute certainty.

Forget the Steam Machine - a new Steam controller is the most exciting hardware announcement I've heard this year

Yes Valve's new Steam Machine looks neat, and yes I'll almost certainly end up mulling over a purchase as my already creaking GPU continues ageing itself into irrelevancy, but - sorry Steam Frame, sorry Switch 2 - it's certainly not the gaming hardware I'm most excited about this year. With a few rare exceptions (hi FromSoftware, and only then if five years have passed since my last playthrough), I never really feel the urge for a replay, no matter how fun I had the first time around. So it probably won't come as much of a surprise to hear the idea of New Game Plus - where you're pretty much compelled to dive back in straight away if you don't want to lose all that vital muscle memory - has never really appealed. Why do it again, when I could be doing something new? If you don't know the drill already, this is the Weekly Digest, in which we recap the highlights you might have missed over the last seven busy days on Eurogamer - now shifted to Monday morning to give you something to peruse while your brain slowly cranks back into working gear after the weekend. Here's a bloody paradox for you! I love the idea of grand strategy games, perhaps more than I can possibly convey. I've spent countless hours poring over screenshots of Europa Universalis 4, Crusader Kings 3, and Victoria 3, mesmerised by those evocative maps and enigmatic numbers. Where some might see drab undulations and a spreadsheet UI, I see tantalising potential; the chance to bend history to my whims with an iron fist, a clean codpiece, and twinkle in my eye. And yet - and yet - when it comes to actually playing the things, no matter how determined my resolve, I'm pretty much guaranteed to nod off within ten minutes of starting the tutorial.

Planet Zoo fans get massive news as sequel plans emerge on sixth anniversary

It's hard to believe Planet Zoo - still the best of developer Frontier's modern-day management sims - is six years old. But six it is, and today's birthday celebrations have brought major news, confirming a sequel is on the way.

I might not be massively into Fortnite these days, but if there's one thing guaranteed to pique my interest in anything, it's a Disney Haunted Mansion crossover. So as someone who's been obsessed with the now five-and-a-half-decade-old theme park attraction since the age of three, it looks like a reinstall is on the cards. Epic has announced a "playful" new Fortnite experience celebrating Disneyland's 70th anniversary is launching 6th November.

Just weeks after Japan rejected Nintendo's initial efforts to patent a variety of Pokémon-style monster capture and throwing mechanics - a patent that might prove critical in the company's ongoing patent infringement lawsuit against Palworld - the US has taken the "rare" step of re-examining a previously granted Pokémon patent, believing it could be invalid.

Keanu Reeves has made no secret of wanting to return to the world of Cyberpunk following his role as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 - even though that could be a little tricky given events. Everywhere! As far as the eye can see! Well, not quite, but The Séance of Blake Manor certainly has a lot of them. This might seem like a strange place to start when talking about developer Spooky Doorway's brilliant new supernatural detective mystery, but it actually says quite a lot about what makes it so good. Here, a fun historical footnote - that jack-o'-lanterns were originally carved from turnips - is turned into a feature, as glowering turnip faces leer from shadowy corners and sit in ghoulish formation along the sweep of an imposing staircase. In the grand scheme of things, a minor detail - but it's also one that lends this spooky deductive yarn an air of historical authenticity that sells its supernatural premise so much harder.

Could Palworld triumph over Pokémon in lawsuit? Four years after its last major update, Nintendo has announced it's reviving Animal Crossing: New Horizons early next year with a new Switch 2 Edition, a major content update for all players - including a new on-island Resort Hotel - and a special Lego collaboration. Additionally, it's bringing back the ability to play classic Nintendo titles in-game (a feature long-time fans have been hoping to see return for decades), but only for Switch Online subscribers.

As I've mentioned before, it was the year my parents finally relented (after a whole lot of nagging about how vitally important Microsoft Encarta would undoubtedly be to my future career prospects) and the benevolent PC gods squatted upon our household to birth a 486 DX2/66 into the world. But of course it was never about Encarta. Within days, I'd developed an insatiable hunger for PC gaming mags, poring back and forth through increasingly dog-eared pages as a hitherto unimagined world of digital wonder presented itself. LucasArts' Sam & Max: Hit the Road was my inaugural purchase, slowly ballooning to include the likes of Theme Park, The 7th Guest, and Myst. But one game I never quite got around to playing was Simon the Sorcerer.

Amazon reportedly "gutting" its video game division as part of 14,000 company wide job cuts

And then how it continues to evolve, again and again, from there. These are such big, magical moments in Psychonauts developer Double Fine's latest adventure - a mesmerising trek through a mysterious world, with, perhaps, a touch of thatgamecompany's seminal Journey in its DNA - that slapping five stars on it without delving deeper almost feels like I'm doing my job wrong. But to hell with that. Instead, I'm going to do my best to preserve at least some of Keeper's secrets, so you might get to enjoy its remarkable sense of goggle-eyed wonder unsullied too.

Nintendo downplays hacking group's claims it breached company servers, says no data has been leaked

Nintendo has addressed recent server breach claims made by hacking group Crimson Collective, insisting no "development or business information" has been leaked from its servers, and that it's so far found no evidence any personal information has been compromised.

I enjoyed it enough that I wasn't wholly convinced Yooka-Replaylee - a “remastered and enhanced” version of Playtonic's 2017 collectathon throwback - could do enough to warrant a return. Slowly the hum of a mysterious subterranean void gives way to rain-lashed walkways as our diminutive protagonists brave the exterior of some vast, heaving machine. Then the reveal of the grand Carnevale, its sprawl of big top tents and twinkling lights, its parade of grotesque fairground thrill seekers, all perfectly framed. Little Nightmares 3's often slavish adherence to the past means it's burdened with far too much frustrating legacy faff, but even so, it's hard not to get lost in the spectacle of it all.

The Sims 4's Adventure Awaits expansion is exactly the kind of getaway I've been looking for

In this, the year of unmitigated bullshit, a bit of a jolly holiday away from it all's probably what most of us could do with. We've all heard the No Man's Sky story by now: controversial launch followed by, as commenters often put it, the greatest redemption arc in the history of gaming. Somewhat remarkably, developer Hello Games' exploratory space sim has now received almost forty major updates since its launch in 2016, all helping No Man's Sky turn its initial "Overwhelmingly Negative" rating into "Very Positive" on Steam. But earlier this week, shortly after the arrival of its Voyagers update, No Man's Sky hit another incredible milestone, reaching its highest Steam player count since its launch nine years ago.

Space can be a lonely place, what with it being - as a wise man once famously put it - so vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big and all. Which is where No Man's Sky new Voyagers update comes in. Now, those long treks across the infinite expanse needn't be quite so lonely thanks to the introduction of multi-crew space ships you can build, pilot, and stroll around with friends.

Our pal the Prince of Persia has been through a lot since his seminal debut in 1989, his form ever-shifting like, well, the sands of time. But throughout it all, from his eye-popping rotoscoped origins to his leap into the third dimension, and then, over the last few years, back into the side-on world again, there's one thing that's consistently defined the series' core: movement. Sure, old Prince was positively plodding compared to his later incarnations, but a sense of unparalleled fluidity has stayed true. I say all this, because The Rogue Prince of Persia, which has just had its 1.0 release on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, PlayStation Plus, and Game Pass after a year in Steam early access, still manages to feel like part of the series' nearly four-decade legacy, despite yet another reimagining of its form.

If I had to make a list of the things in life I have absolutely no interest in, trucks would be pretty near the top. And yet, I am obsessed with developer SCS Software's Truck Simulator series of games. And so, following the news both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 are at long last making their way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, I'm here to convince you their soothing expanses of endless virtual highway might also be for you, even if you don't know your backhaul from your bill of lading.

If you've been reading Eurogamer for any length of time there's a good chance you've already seen me harp on about the shamefully overlooked Rusty Lake series. It's a wonderfully macabre thing; strange, haunting, often unexpectedly disturbing, but also brilliantly accessible, and cheap as chips too. I love it, and will never stop telling people about it in a bid to share that love, so here I am again now that new game Servant of the Lake has been revealed.

At this point, it's almost tradition that Gamescom Opening Night Live draws to a close with a collective sigh. Again I send my prayers to the stars that the OmniGeoff may one day concede - and this goes for the equally interminable likes of Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards - that shorter, more focused is always better. Imagine the sustained enthusiasm you could generate without all that flaccid, glassy eyed filler! And so in that spirit of relative brevity, here's a quick list of some of the slighty under-the-radar announcements from this year's show (and pre-show) that managed to get us quite excited.

Yes, the Lego Batman series is back in Legacy of the Dark Knight and it's coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC next year.

UPDATE 20/8/2025: 2K Games has confirmed recent reports of layoffs at BioShock 4 developer Cloud Chamber, sharing an internal memo with Eurogamer in which 2K president David Ismailer told staff the publisher would be "reducing the size of the development team" as it looks to "rework certain aspects" of the purportedly troubled project.

It's been a busy couple of week in Nintendo presentation land. First we had that third-party-focused partner showcase, then it was the turn of the indies, leaving everyone to speculate that a proper Direct showcase much surely be on the way. And, well, here we are, sort of. Today's 45-minute Direct is apparently focused exclusively on Switch 2's upcoming Kirby Air Riders - and if that appeals, here's where you'll be able to watch it unfold.

Civilization 7 didn't get off to a great start when it launched earlier this year, quickly becoming mired in complaints around its controversial gameplay choices, lack of features, and clumsy UI. But while developer Firaxis is still struggling to win over series fans - particularly on Steam, where its user reviews remain "mixed" - Take-Two Interactive boss Strauss Zelnick believes Civilization 7 is still on track to hit its lifetime "value" projections.

A mere seven days after its third-party-focused partner showcase, Nintendo has given indies a turn, detailing exactly what Switch and Switch 2 players can look forward to in between those bigger-budget releases. And while its latest Indie World Showcase was certainly a brisk affair, it still managed to pack a lot in, so if you missed it live - or simply want a refresher - here's everything featured this time around. And to avoid an overwhelming sense of crushing disappointment, I'm just going to tell you now: there wasn't even a whiff of Silksong.

You probably already know EA's about to hold a Battlefield 6 open beta so you can check out its multiplayer component ahead of release, and you probably also know EA's holding an open beta early access event so you can get stuck in even earlier. But you might not be aware there's another way to get an early access key if you missed out previously.

As Steam and Itch.io continued to grapple with recent pressure by payment processors to withdraw NSFW games from their platforms, Mastercard has moved to distance itself from the ensuing censorship controversy, insisting it has not "required restrictions of any" game. But Valve says otherwise, pointing to a Mastercard rule saying the company can refuse to process anything it believes 'reflects negatively' on its brand.
