Bungie's troubled extraction shooter Marathon still aiming for release by March 2026
"As needed, we will make corrections."
Bungie's Marathon is still aiming for a release this financial year, Sony CFO Lin Tao has confirmed, adding "as needed, we will make corrections" following recent playtests.
The online shooter was indefinitely delayed back in June due to "passionate" fan feedback, as well as a plagiarism scandal over the use of an external artist's work.
Now, in today's earnings report, Tao confirmed Sony and Bungie are "fully dedicated to launching the title to schedule".
Marathon received a technical test back in October, focused on gameplay and retention. "We are in the process of analysing the performance against those KPIs," said Tao, "and as needed, we will make corrections."
"We are fully dedicated to launching the title to schedule," she added. "We will assume that we will launch this within this (financial) year, and that is included in the forecast."
That means Marathon should still be released by March 2026.
Elsewhere, Sony reported PS5 shipments have now topped 84.2m units, while Ghost of Yotei has sold over 3.3m units in its first month.
